What do you charge for genealogy research?
My genealogy research fees are $50 per hour with a 5 hour minimum.
Why do you charge by the hour and not per research project?
I’ve had a number of people ask me to give them a firm quote on how much it will cost to trace their ancestors back a specific number of generations. The problem is that genealogy is a field with many unknowns. It could take me 10 minutes to find your great-grandfather or it could take 10 hours. Or he could be a brick wall (for now). Instead, my commitment to my clients is that I will use all of my extensive experience and training to find as much verified information as I can about your ancestors in the time allotted.
Do you guarantee that you will find my ancestors?
Unfortunately, no genealogist can guarantee to find specific ancestors. There are too many unknowns including the lack of records, lost or destroyed records, name changes, etc. What I do guarantee is that I will use all of my extensive experience to find all available information on the ancestors you seek.
Can I specify exactly what I want you to research?
Absolutely! Each project begins with a brief conversation about your goals. You can choose to have me research a particular line of your family or a particular ancestor, try to break through a brick wall, use DNA to resolve a family history mystery, find your ancestors in old newspapers, or prepare a lineage society application. It’s entirely up to you.
