FAMILY HISTORY
My Genealogy Story
An Early Fascination with Genealogy + Family History
I was always fascinated by the family stories my grandmothers would tell me of faraway ancestors in Sweden, Scotland, and France. Then when I was 12, a professional genealogist moved in across the street from my family. I was intrigued by the work she did and she offered to mentor me, an enthusiastic young genealogist. For many years, though, genealogy was just a hobby.
A Career in Technology + Publishing
After graduation from the University of California, Irvine, I pursued a career in technology publishing and training working for leading global organizations. I was a global communications and training manager for Oracle, a top Silicon Valley software company, working both in California and Europe.
Later, I was a technology publishing consultant and author for leading international publishers including Pearson, Macmillan, Prentice Hall, and Financial Times Press. In between, I continued researching my family history, online and on-site in Europe.
Becoming a Professional Genealogist
In 2018, I became a professional genealogist, working part-time with paid clients and teaching genealogy classes. I also actively pursued advanced genealogy training through the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, National Institute for Genealogical Studies, and University of Strathclyde (Scotland). In January 2023, I finally realized my long-ago dream of becoming a full-time professional genealogist.
